Kriti Sanon, Disha Patani or Shraddha Kapoor, who is Tiger Shroff’s lucky box office charm?
The makers of the Tiger Shroff-starrer, Ganapath, announced the leading lady for the forthcoming actioner on February 10. Kriti Sanon will reunite with her Heropanti co-star Tiger Shroff for Ganapath. And needless to say, fans cannot keep calm.
Kriti got a grand welcome from her co-star, Tiger, who not only unveiled her electrifying first look from the action-thriller but also expressed his joy at getting a chance to work with the “bundle of talent”.
In the last seven years since he started off in Bollywood, Tiger Shroff has cemented his place as one of the most bankable action stars in the industry today, which is perhaps why his mass entertainers have often managed a solid start at the ticket windows. But was it just him or did his leading ladies have a role to play – in more ways than one?
Before Tiger pounces on to and pumps life into his next, Ganapath, we try to assess which one of Tiger’s leading ladies is his luckiest charm at the box office. Psst, there’s a clear winner, read on:
TIGER SHROFF AND KRITI SANON LEFT AN IMPACT WITH HEROPANTI
Ganapath is not the first title to feature Kriti Sanon and Tiger Shroff as a lead pair. The duo had starred in director Sabbir Khan’s action-comedy, Heropanti, which also marked their respective Hindi film debuts. While the film opened to mixed reviews, it was a commercial success at the box office with an all India net total of Rs 53 crore. It was a decent number to clock for two newcomers with their very first mainstream outing.
While Tiger managed to impress more with his kicks and punches than his acting, Kriti had a charming screen presence to complement his unabashed rowdiness. The two shared a decent, albeit cheesy, chemistry in the motion picture and one would not have thought that it would take over seven years for both the stars to reunite after their successful maiden outing.
SHRADDHA KAPOOR AND TIGER SHROFF SHOULDERED BAAGHI
Tiger Shroff’s second film was with Shraddha Kapoor, who had made her acting debut four years prior to her new co-star. Tiger went a step ahead with his stunts in Baaghi and let his backflips do the talking. However, what surprised the viewers was the fact that Shraddha Kapoor managed to match Tiger Shroff’s exploits and mowed down a few fighters in the movie herself.
Even though the romance wasn’t the true strength of this action-thriller, it did find its way into the screenplay. Baaghi managed to rake in over Rs 76 crore net at the domestic box office and laid the foundation for the Baaghi series.
If Baaghi 2 starred Disha Patani in the main lead, the third instalment of the Baaghi franchise brought back the formidable pair of Shraddha Kapoor and Tiger Shroff. Baaghi 3 opened to negative reviews but managed to amass over Rs 93 crore at the Indian box office. However, what dampened the film’s box office prospects was the fact that theatres pan India were shut down due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
TIGER SHROFF AND DISHA PATANI SET THE STAGE ON FIRE IN BAAGHI 2
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala brought the fresh pair of Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani in the second instalment of the Baaghi franchise, Baaghi 2. Ever since Baaghi 2’s theatrical trailer hit YouTube, the masses were more than eager to catch the action-drama on celluloid. Needless to say, the film smashed box office records and turned out to be Tiger Shroff’s biggest solo grosser with an all-India net total of Rs 165 crore (second to War, co-starring Hrithik Roshan, that grossed Rs 317 crore in the Indian box office).
Although the Baaghi franchise is known for its over-the-top action sequences and a whole lot of dialoguebaazi, Disha and Tiger’s chemistry in this two-hour-long stunt show was liked by the viewers. Also, by this time, rumours about the two co-stars turning into a real-life couple were rife, and continue to do the rounds even to this very day.
Besides having starred alongside Shraddha Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Disha Patani in successful films, Tiger Shroff also shared the screen space with actors like Jacqueline Fernandez, Nidhhi Agerwal, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria in critical and commercial failures like A Flying Jatt, Munna Michael and Student of the Year 2, respectively.
Now that Kriti Sanon and Tiger Shroff are set to reunite for director Vikas Bahl’s Ganapath, we can only hope that the on-screen couple can break more records with their forthcoming feature film, the shoot for which will commence sometime later this year.
